Establishing + Scaling High-Impact Mentoring Programmes: A Global Success Story
Powered by Youth Business International
Mentoring is often an essential part of the support package that organisations provide to entrepreneurs and is a vital ingredient in their success. The benefits of mentoring are well documented, mentors offer personalized support and development to mentees. Programmes look to recruit experienced entrepreneurs and business people as volunteers to establish trusted relationships with entrepreneurs in order to offer them long term support as they start and grow a business.
The approach to mentoring that will be explored is one that focuses on building self-reliance in the mentee in a non-directive style, i.e. guiding rather than telling them what to do, and on developing the strategic skills of an entrepreneur and the confidence to enable better decision making.
Building and running a successful mentoring programme is challenging and for mentoring to be effective a strong approach to the programme design is essential. The session will share experiences of the full programme lifecycle, from the planning through to the full implementation and evaluation.
Working with a mentor is recognized as providing an entrepreneur with a significant advantage and it can often make the difference between success and failure.
“Thirty-seven percent of young entrepreneurs globally consider their mentor more influential than money to the success of their business”
“The survival rate of the companies led by the mentees is 87% 5 years after their creation”
In this session for GEN delegates, we will:
